Reference Department
Department Head:
Faris Bennett
Phone (978) 373-1586 ext. 608
General
The Reference Department answers questions, helps
patrons locate library materials, assists patrons in planning research and
preparing projects, and provides information about resources beyond the
Library's collection. We also help people use the Internet to find information
and solve problems. To ask a question,
phone in your question to 978-373-1586 x608, Attn: Reference
Dept.
Collection Development
The Reference Department is responsible for
maintaining and developing most of the nonfiction collection in the library,
including the Reference book collection, on the main floor. This department also is
responsible for other collections, including music CDs,
young adult materials, foreign language books,
periodicals and
newspapers,
and a substantial part of the video and DVD rental collection.
Computer Services
The Reference Department has available 30 PCs
(Windows-based) on the main floor, for public use. All these PCs can access the
Internet, and are loaded with Microsoft Office software for word processing,
database, spreadsheet, and presentation work. All PCs are networked to B &W and
Color laser printers. They have USB 2.0 ports and headphone jacks. There is no $
charge
for using the PCs, but printing is $.15 for B&W, $.25 for color per page. There is a time limit
of forty-five minutes when all computers are being used. Please view our complete list of
computer services and fees.
This Department uses professional librarians to teach
introductory classes for beginners on how to use the Internet, and maintains
a list of helpful
Favorite Internet Sites.
