*** Due to library budget
cuts, classes are currently not being offered ***
The Haverhill Public Library offers FREE
classes for beginners on using the Internet. You do not have to own a computer
to take these classes. The classes are small, with lots of individual attention
and hands-on practice. Each class is approximately 2 hours long. The library
currently offers each class twice every month. There is no advance signup
for these classes. Please call the Reference Dept. (978-373-1586 x608) to
find out the days and times of next month's classes.
Beginning With the Internet
This class will introduce the basics using a computer mouse and
keyboard. After spending time learning the coordination and technique needed to
use the mouse, we will visit a number of Internet sites and learn some basic Web
‘browsing’ skills. You will learn how to get to a Web site when you know its
Internet address. You will need to know and practice the techniques taught in
this course before you proceed and take other Internet courses.
Prerequisite : No special skills are required to take this course
More Internet for the Beginner
The Internet is a great source of information, and can also be lots of fun! In
this class you will learn how to find good Web sites and information by using
“directories”, “search engines,” and other tools, along with some tips and
tricks to use as you ‘surf’ the net. The class will allow ample time for you to
practice what you have learned. There will be time allowed for you to do some
searches of your own. Preference will be given to those who have taken
Beginning With the Internet (above).
What Else Can I Find Using the Net?
Designed for Internet users with some experience at visiting Web sites, this
course shows what the Google web site can do for you – including finding people,
businesses, maps, pictures, news, shopping, and more. Other topics may be
included, such as using the Internet to find books in the library, finding
magazine articles, shopping, setting up a free e-mail
account, and more.
Prerequisite : some experience browsing the Internet
*** There is no advance signup for
these classes. Please arrive early to get a seat. ***
