All Haverhill teens entering 6th - 12th grade this fall are invited to participate in this year's summer reading program.
You can register for the program beginning June 21st and all books must be recorded between July 1st and September 5th.

Check out the 2010 Summer Reading Program Brochure for information on the Reading Program and the events at the Library this summer.

Calendar of Events at the Library

This year for each book that you read and record, the Friends of the Haverhill Public Library will donate $1 to The Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund.  This summer you will have the opportunity to raise another $1 for the Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund by writing a book review.  So start reading and recording those books- remember that books you read for your school's summer reading lists can be recorded for the summer reading program.

This year, we will be using a program that will allow you to sign-up and record your books online.  You can do this from a library computer, your home computer, or anywhere you have access to the internet.  You don't even need your library card number!  You will be creating your own ID and password.  Try to remember your password, but if you forget, contact Alissa at the Library and she can reset it for you.

How to sign up:

1. Go to http://iread.evanced.info/haverhill/sr/homepage.asp and click on the tab that says "Teens"
2. Click on the Sign Me Up button
3. Enter the user name and password of your choosing, your first and last name, age, phone number, and email (if you have one)
4. Using the drop down menus, enter the grade you will be entering in the fall, and chose your school from the drop down menu.  If you do not see your school on the list, please select "Other"
5. Click the Save button
6. A window will open reminding you of your log in information- you will need to remember this when you go to sign in and record your books.  Hit Ok and you will be taken into your account.

To record books:

1. Log into the reading program using your user name and password
2. Select the Submit Review button (at the bottom of the page underneath the reviews section (yellow)
3. To log a book, enter the title, author, and how you would rate the book (required information).  If you wish to raise another $1 for our charity, type a short review (what the book was about- did you like it, why or why not) in the review box.  Check the I Agree box..
4. Hit the SAVE button once you have entered the required information and typed in your review (optional).

To see what books you have recorded:

1. Log into the reading program at using your user name and password
2. Select the Review Log button- this will show you all the information that you have recorded- including reviews.

Reviews:

The reviews section on your homepage shows the reviews that Haverhill teens have read and recorded this summer.  Two partial reviews will appear on your main page, but you can see all of the full reviews by clicking on the View All Reviews button (opens a new window).  If you read an interesting review and want to read the book, simply click on the picture of the book cover and you will be taken to that book's page in the library catalog.  To request it, click on request item and enter your library card number and your pin number (the last four numbers of your telephone number).  Or, call the Library and we'll be happy to request it for you (978-373-1586 x607).
