Black History Month at the Library

There is lots going on at the Haverhill Library in honor of Black History Month this month!  Stop in for a movie night.  We’ll be showing the Oscar-nominated horror film Get Out on February 11.  On the 17th, we’ll be showing the romantic story of how the Obamas met, Southside With You.   Last, but not least, stop by to watch Pariah, the coming of age story of a Brooklyn teenager, on February 25.  If you can’t make those showings, you can always stop by our DVD section and check out our display to grab a fascinating documentary or excellent new (or new-to-you) movie!

If you’re looking for more local Black History or just some good reading, please visit our Non-Fiction display.  We have put together some fascinating historical photos from our Special Collections, as well as a few favorite books from the collection.  Come learn something you may not have known or grab a good read!

Another great option this month is the database Biography in Context.  This database will tell you interesting facts about some inspirational historical figures, like Martin Luther King Jr. and Ida B. Wells, or fun facts about people in the news today, like Grammy winner Bruno Mars or Oscar-nominated Daniel Kaluuya.  It is an excellent way to get to know more about some amazing people.
