Language Learning Resources at HPL

December is Learn a Foreign Language Month! If you are looking to improve your skills in a language, HPL is here to help! The library has a number of print, audio, and electronic language-learning resources.

If you are looking to learn a language other than English, visit the 400s section of the nonfiction collection. Print, audio, and video materials are shelved together, and are grouped by language.

The library also offers access to the Mango Languages database, which is accessible offsite with a Haverhill Public Library card. The Mango app is one of several library apps that will be covered in our “There’s an App for That @ the Library!” class on Saturday, January 11 at 10:30am. Check out our Calendar of Events for more information about this class and other programs at the library.

If you are an adult learner of English, you may be interested in our ESL collection. This collection includes print and audio materials, and all items are marked with an “ESL” sticker.

The HPL website also includes links to other organizations in the Haverhill/Merrimack Valley area that offer ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) services. These include the Community Action, Inc. Adult Learning Center, the Merrimack Valley Immigrant and Education Center’s Language Programs, and Northern Essex Community College’s Adult Basic Education.
