A Separation (DVD)

This Iranian movie, winner of the 2012 Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award, is a compelling drama of a married couple in the process of splitting up. It’s not that simple, however. Very few movies capture as convincingly as A Separation does the ways in which what seems honorable decisions can lead to interpersonal conflicts — even disasters. Dynamically shot and paced like a thriller, this film has the density of a good novel.  A Separation is an excellent example where a film’s script and performances are so compelling that you totally forget it’s a foreign-language movie. Don’t miss it!
