Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Simon Spier is gay, however, he hasn’t come out yet – except to anonymous fellow student (code name Blue) he’s been emailing back and forth with. Simon inadvertently left his email logged in on a school computer and now Martin knows his secret. Simon now has to hook Martin up with his friend Abby or else Martin will reveal Simon’s secret (and Blue’s) to the entire school.  Simon struggles through Martin’s blackmail, changing dynamics in his friend group, family relations, and desperately wanting to meet Blue in person. Email correspondence between Simon and Blue are interspersed throughout the book and readers can slowly watch the two boys fall in love with each other.

This is a very sweet and oftentimes hilarious book.  Simon and his friends are all authentic teenagers going through their own unique struggles. This story has been adapted into the film ‘Love, Simon’ which hits theaters this month. Pick up the book before catching the movie!
