Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway

Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway tells the story of Joe Spork – unassuming clock repairman and son of Matthew “Tommy Gun” Spork, the well-known gangster.  Joe lives a quiet life, in which his only goals are to find a new girlfriend and not turn into his dad.  Everything is turned upside down when Joe accidentally activates an unusual clockwork mechanism that turns out to be a 1950s doomsday machine.  Suddenly, Joe is surrounded by insane cult followers, foreign dictators, and all manner of thugs trying to steal the device.

This book has something for everyone.  It’s a little bit noir, a little bit scifi, a little bit romance, and very funny.  Full of absurd twists and turns and fascinating characters, this book is both compelling and delightful.
