Rachel’s Top Picks of 2014

I don’t know about you guys, but I sure read a lot of great books this year! Here are my Top 10 of 2014 (click on the cover to request it!):

10.  This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki. I loved this graphic novel about a girl’s summer spent on Awago Beach with her family.

9. Four by Veronica Roth. This was an interesting read hearing Four’s side of the story from Divergent and his initiation into Dauntless.

8. Dangerous Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I’m a big fan of the Beautiful Creatures series so when this one came out based on Ridley Duchannes and Link I just had to read it! It was a fun read and I’m excited for the sequel!

7. Monument 14: Savage Drift by Emmy Laybourne. Things got creepy and tense in this final installment to the Monument 14 series. I was pleased with how things ended however.

6. Openly Straight by Bill Konigsberg. This was a funny and thought provoking story about a gay teenager who moves across country and goes back into the closet so he won’t be known as “the gay kid” – he wants to be recognized for something other than his sexuality.

5. City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. This was a fantastic ending to a fantastic series! I’m sad to see the Mortal Instruments series end, but I’m excited that we have many more Shadowhunter stories on the way such as The Dark Artifices, The Last Hours and more short stories!

4. Choose Your Own Autobiography by Neil Patrick Harris. This is one of the few non young adult books I read this year. I absolutely loved it. It has such a unique set up (it’s just like the Choose Your Own Adventure books so you pick which page to turn to and see how Neil’s life ends up) and it’s super funny!

3. Cress by Marissa Meyer. I’m in love with this series! Cress is the third book in The Lunar Chronicles and adds a Rapunzel type character into the mix. I cannot wait for Winter to come out! Unfortunately, that won’t be until NEXT NOVEMBER but we will get Fairest soon which is told from Queen Levana’s point of view!

2. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater. Again, another series that I obsess over! This is the third book in the Raven Boys quadrilogy. Some crazy stuff went down and even more mystery was added! I just want to know everything!

1. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. If you’ve been to the Teen Zone in the past few months you probably (hopefully) noticed that this was my Rachel Recommends’ pick. This book was AMAZING. It also made me FEEL ALL THE FEELS. Seriously, read this book! (then come talk to me about it!)

So what books did you guys love this year? Come tell me or post it to our Facebook page!
