Rachel read The Faithful Spy: Deitrich Bonhoeffer and the Plot to Kill Hitler by John Hendrix and this is what she thought…

This biography follows the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a devout Christian and proud German, and his involvement in the German resistance to kill Hitler. I was struck by The Faithful Spy‘s hybrid nature of being both a graphic novel and prose. Reading this book I felt sadness and disgust at the actions of Hitler and his Nazis. My favorite element of this book were the full page illustrated spreads. The visual impact was amazing from the artwork and the stark colors to how the prose was woven into the images.

Who would you recommend this book to?

Tweens and teens interested in WWII history. I would recommend it for the 6th grade biography project. The Faithful Spy is a very informative book about an important man who gave everything to stop evil incarnate.
